Ride a cock-horse to Banbury Cross,
To see a fine lady upon a white horse;
Rings on her fingers and bells on her toes,
She shall have music wherever she goes.
Banbury is market town in Oxfordshire that is steeped in history. This nursery rhyme was first published in 1788 but it is believed to date back to the 15th century. The original Banbury Cross was demolished by the Puritans in 1600 and I was always told that Lady Godiva was the ‘Fine Lady’
